Baby A's Face

Since July 1, we have been rather busy between the doctors appointments and getting ready for the babies.  We have been going to our Non Stress Tests (NST) each week now for the past 3 weeks – and up till this week, it’s been pretty uneventful, which is perfect.  The boys are normally sluggish to react at first, but they kick in normally at the 39th minute of the 40 minute test to let the doctors and nurses know they are perfectly OK.   So this week, they decide to play a little game – well, Baby B specifically was the culprit.  The nurse straps on the heart-rate sensors to Laura’s belly, first on Baby A – his BPM was 145.  Right away, his heart-rate spikes to 164 when he moves, exactly what the test wants to see, at least 3 of those spikes in 40 minutes.  Baby B – Mr. Mischievous gets strapped in, and IMMEDIATELY he starts kicking the monitor – which would be OK if we could get an accurate consistent reading of his heart, which we cannot because we found out that the poor little guy is curled up in a tiny ball high in Laura’s womb – so they never actually got the monitor on his heart, and every time he moved, or kicked it, the monitor would lose contact and not record his heart-rate.  Laura and I were sitting in the room – actually being entertained by Baby B’s consistent  kicking of the monitor – we can see it moving up and down, up and down.

Baby B looks like a Cabbage Patch Kid!

Like I said, Baby B really doesn’t like thing on him!  So the Doctor’s assistant looks at the results and orders us to go for a biophysical – basically an ultrasound so we can see the boys and make sure they are ok.  At this point, it gets a bit nerve racking, but everything should be good, B was moving the entire test, right??  I am glad we did the biophysical, because anytime we get to see the boys, it’s great, plus we found out that they are perfectly good.  The technician told us she was looking at their hearts to make sure their breathing patterns were good, and also the amniotic fluid around each boy was at a good level. Finally, she looked to make sure the umbilical chord was not obstructing their breathing in any way.  ALL GOOD!! PLUS – she gave us a bonus, the most clear pictures of the babies faces yet!! First, take a look at Baby A – you may have to sit back from the computer a bit and tilt your head to the right to see him, even give a little squint.  Half of his face is sort of shaded out, but you can see his eye, nose and cheek & jaw, plus half of his mouth pretty clear, but not as good as Baby B tho… Check his little chubby cheeks in the second picture.  This is where we found out B was curled up in a little ball, I believe those are his elbows on either side of his face – and A is stretched out on Laura’s left side – nice and comfortable!  So there you have it – I can’t wait to meet these boys, its been so exciting and such an awesome ride.  At most, 29 days and counting now…
